As an authorized auxiliary of Humboldt State University (HSU), one of the responsibilities of the Humboldt State University Sponsored Programs Foundation (SPF), is to manage grants and contracts awarded by various Federal agencies, units of state and local governments, and private foundations and corporations to support research and educational programs conducted by HSU faculty and administration.

Agreements with certain federal agencies allow the university to drawdown funds as needed to cover actual expenditures incurred on a given award. After work on the award has commenced and expenditures are recorded, the university accounting office may process a cash drawdown to cover such expenses.

The SPF Indirect Revenue Distribution Policy outlines how Indirect revenues are used. The Policy then provides for the distribution of the remaining revenues at specified percentages.
